Event catering
It has been suggested that part or all of event caterer be merged into this article or section. (Discuss)
An event caterer serves food with wait staff at dining tables or sets up a self-serve buffet. The food may be prepared on site or shipped in but often some combination depending on the menu and facilities at the site. The event caterer staff is responsible not only for preparing the food but also setting up the dining area and waiting tables. This service is typically provided at banquets, conventions, and weddings. Any event where all the attenders are provided with food and drinks or sometimes only hors d'ouvres is often called a catered event.

A catering company or specialist is expected to know not just food preperation, but how to make it attractive. A wedding requires working with the entire theme or color scheme of the wedding.
Much catering is sold on a per-person basis, where adding additional people is a flat price per person. Keeping the cost of the food and supplies below this is required to make a profit on the catering.

Industrial catering
Industrial catering includes providing food for airline passengers, schools, prisons and other institutional settings. It can include contract management of client foodservice facilities. See Catering (airline).

Airline catering
Airlines often have divisions or hire third parties to provide food for passengers.

Food on airlines has dropped in frequency of flights it's offered on. Today a drink and snack item are common on shorter flights. Airline food is often seen as bad by the people who eat it.

Companies
Catering is covered by two different groups. Independent caterers and companies with a catering business on the sid.

Philippine cuisine, like its home, evolved for centuries. Inside a traditional Filipino kitchen, east meets west as woks battle kalamansi and steaks in what may be called an original culinary fusion. Its influences are Malay, Chinese, Spanish, Indian and to a certain extent American culture and they combine into a unique, multicultural hotpot. Dishes range from a simple meal of fish and rice to rich paellas and cocidos. Filipino food is indeed a unique culinary experience.

Popular dishes include lechon (whole roasted pig and calf), Longanisa (sausages); Tortas (egg wraps), Pan de sal (bread rolls), Adobo (chicken and/or pork marinated in garlic, soy sauce, and vinegar), Kalderetang Kambing (rich goat stew), Kare-kare (ox tail cooked in peanut sauce), Sinigang (sour soup), Pancit (stir-fried noodles), Lumpia (fresh or fried spring rolls) and Halo-halo (a cold exotic fruit mix dessert)

A caterer is someone who professionally cooks and prepares food for parties, weddings and other events. If you’re planning on choosing a caterer for your event, you may want to consider several factors.
First and foremost, what type of event will you be hosting? This is important because you wouldn’t select a caterer who specializes in children’s birthday parties for a wedding. Different caterers have different areas of expertise. Hiring someone famous for deli platters is fine for a casual backyard deck party, but probably not what you want for an elegant dinner party. Decide on your event’s theme before you begin to look for a caterer.

Your second consideration should be budget. Not only do you want to hire the best caterer around, you want the best caterer you can afford. Don’t go over budget though; you’ll find there are good caterers available in all price ranges. In order to get a fair estimate from a caterer, you’ll need to provide the following information: date, type of event, type of menu you have in mind, and approximate number of guests.

Most caterers will let you sample some of their specialties so you can choose the one whose food you like best. While being a good cook is probably the main reason to hire any particular caterer, your work still isn’t done. In addition to being able to adequately prepare food, your caterer has to be a stand-up business person too. It's a good idea to ask for references, and not just one or two.

It’s important to receive recommendations because you want to make sure the caterer you choose will show up for your event, especially if you will be leaving a deposit. It’s also important to check with the local department of health and make sure there haven’t been any complaints regarding unsafe handling of food. The caterer should have all of the proper permits and be able to produce them for your scrutiny. She and her staff should dress in a manner appropriate to your event and behave as professionals. Lastly, you’ll want to check with the Better Business Bureau to ensure there haven’t been any complaints.

It may seem like a lot of work just to hire someone to provide food for your event. However, considering the health and enjoyment of your guests as a major factor, it’s time well spent.

When planning an event, you don't have to tackle it alone. Carters are used everyday for business to personnel, formal, and causal settings. Whether it's for a wedding, banquet, or any type of celebration, carefully choose your caterer because the food will not only represent the caterer but also yourself.

How to Choose a Caterer
When choosing a caterer, it is better to be safe than sorry. To ensure that you pick the right company to cater your event, remember to do the following:
• Talk to family, friends and business associates for the names of caters they have used and can recommend.
• Recall the last event you attended where the food and service impressed you. Learn the name and number of the cater.
• When you have a list of caters to call, contact the Better Business Bureau to find out whether they are reliable.
• Ask for references and make calls. Don't take chances.
Presentation is everything. Ask to attend an event handled by the caterer you are planning to use.
• Request a tasting of the food that will be served at your event.
